Sample Letter to Camp Staff

Welcome to Camp!

We pride ourselves on providing top-notch support and training to our staff to ensure the best summer possible. Safety is always our number one priority.

Our camp has zero tolerance for abuse of any kind – physical, emotional, sexual. In support of our mission to make safety our number one priority we are implementing the CampSafe training program for all of our staff. This training will provide all camp personnel – counselors, specials staff, dining, maintenance, supervisory – all of us with a working knowledge of child sexual abuse. Child sexual abuse can be a difficult topic to talk about but to prevent it, we know it needs to be addressed.

Each of you plays an integral role in keeping children safe at camp. The CampSafe training will teach you how to prevent sexual abuse, how to recognize it when it occurs, and how to respond to and report abuse when you see it. We will then follow up at our pre-camp orientation with further discussion about personal safety and how to keep children safe at camp.

To take the CampSafe training, simply follow the instructions on the next page. Note that we have a specific code for our camp. The CampSafe training is a 30 – 45 minute interactive eLearn training that you will take within one month after being hired.

If you have any questions or need further support regarding the CampSafe training please call the camp office.

See you in the summer!

Camp Director

Sample Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

Thank you for entrusting your children to our care this summer. Our camp prides itself on providing top-notch support and training to our staff to ensure the best summer possible. Safety is always our number one priority.

Our staff are carefully vetted through a process that includes background checks, reference checks, and interviews. With this in mind, we are proud to announce that we are adding the CampSafe training program to our staff requirements. As you know we have a zero tolerance policy for abuse of any kind – physical, emotional, sexual.

CampSafe is a proactive approach to child safety. The training will provide all of our staff with sexual abuse prevention training. Before camp begins, each of our staff will be required to complete this eLearn training.

Educated Staff. Safer Camps.

Sexual abuse is a sensitive topic but one that needs to be addressed at all camps. The CampSafe program supports empowering our staff with knowledge and a compassionate approach to creating a Culture of Safety at camp.

The CampSafe training has been designed by the KidSafe Foundation, a nonprofit organization that specializes in sexual abuse prevention. KidSafe trains all types of professionals who work with children, teaches parents how to empower their children with personal safety skills, and educates parents how to have important conversations with their children about personal safety – without instilling fear.

KidSafe has provided training to over 30,000 adults. For more information, you can visit the KidSafe website at www.kidsafefoundation.org. There you will find information on how to talk with your campers about personal safety before they head off to camp, how to recognize signs of sexual abuse, and how to respond helpfully to your child if you have any concerns. Communication is key to a child’s safety.

We are looking forward to a fabulous summer! Thank you,

Jack Johnson

CampSafe Wrap Up

Working at camp is an amazing opportunity to help kids learn, grow and mature in a healthy environment. For many children, camp is the one place where they have to put down their phones and other electronics and socialize with others. Our job is to help them learn healthy socialization skills surrounded by people who care about them.

Thanks for all you do to make every child’s summer camp experience safe and awesome. Your commitment to becoming a CampSafe camp speaks volumes of your commitment to children, their families and your staff.

Wishing you a safe and successful summer!
